The 15% is a stat from Advanced NFL Stats ... I'm pretty sure it's not Rams-specific. (Though yeah, our rate is probably lower.)

As to your second comment, I really wonder whether it's a lack of understanding, or a lack of desire. Spagnuolo appeared to wrestle with the decision before sending in the FG unit, as though giving in was the "safe" call rather than a meaningless call. But constantly laying up in these critical situations feels like this whole Rams season is an exhibition, a "teaching year" rather than a full-fledged attempt to win every game we can.

Either way I am hoping that it's a temporary mindset, and not a sign of a critical flaw.

I was surprised at your remark that the Rams would only have had a 15% chance of converting the 4th and two. Teams are successfull on 2-point conversion tries about 40% of the time so I don't see why this situation would be different. Or is it that it is the Rams trying to score instead of some other NFL team that causes that percentage to be so low?

Otherwise, I agree totally with your point; going for a FG in that spot shows a shocking lack of understanding of the situation or else simply no interest in trying to win.
